When I received this project Christmas ornaments were just starting to hit the shelves. The goal of this project was to find a product whose packaging didn’t work as well as it could and find a different solution that solved the previous problems and had environmental impact in mind. I was immediately reminded of how poorly ornaments were usually packaged. They’re either in cardboard boxes with flimsy plastic windows or plastic tubes that are difficult to store after the decorations come down. My solution is inspired by plastic cupcake trays. The shape holds the ornament securely in place and keeps them from hitting each other. To keep them in the tray I used a paper sleeve that is tight enough to keep from sliding off in handling but is very easy to pull off when needed. All elements of this package are recyclable.
